gymkhanna was a let down but the sommelier was not. this had the berry, gentle vibes of the cret du jour that i hold as my magnum opus wine while being unoaked and being all around easier on the palate. beautiful notes of blueberry, some earthy notes, but also some deeper cherry. crazy thing is this says unoaked but i did taste a decent amount of oak -iness but i might be crazy. LOVELY wine.

Best white of the evening! Seductive on the nose, with gorgeous honey, caramelized pear, peach and cantaloupe aromas. On the palate, spicy and herbal, with great citric acidity and outstanding rocky minerality that adds a lot of complexity. Maçanita living up to all the hype!
Wow this is an amazing 100% Touriga National without any oak! 3 month spent in Inox leaves the TN aromas pure and undistracted. Awesome produce showcasing the soul of TN. This wine is bone dry but fresh as fuck given the oven-like growing conditions. Great bottle maturation potential. Wineyard started experimenting with this in 2015 at 2000 bottles. It’s now producing 40.000 bottles due to high demand in North America and Northern Europe.
Blueberry on the nose with black and red currants, blackberries, mocha and a touch of spice on the palate. This unoaked wine is full bodied smooth and well balanced with nice tannins. It went perfectly with a grilled filet, horseradish whipped potatoes and broccolini. I had it at the ETCH restaurant in Nashville.

Great Baga! Intense flavor of blackberry, black currant with notes of pepper and freshly cut wood. Great acidity and tannins (not too overwhelming) with moderate warmth and medium body. Good to enjoy not too warm.
A complex, dry Baga, still with a characteristically lighter body - vey agreeable if hard to discern many specific notes.

Não tinha uma grande experiência com esta casta mas este vinho alentejano surpreendeu. Tinha corpo e é aveludado, fruta vermelha e ameixa bem marcado e sendo sem madeira permitiu ver toda a potencialidade da casta. Um pouco caro mas vale a pena.

Onweerstaanbaar lekker. Blind geproefd en kwam er niet uit. Zeer lichtgekleurd, maar heeft voldoende bite en power. En zo anders dan bijvoorbeeld pinot noir. Barst echt van het fruit. Subtiele kruidigheid. Macanita zegt dat dit vooralsnog de enige monocepage tinta carvalha uit Portugal is. Ouders van deze druif zijn 50% castelao en een kruising tussen sarigo en donzelinho branco. Enfin. De wijn is prachtig. Stokken uit 1970. 30% whole bunch, rijpt 12 maanden op neutrale vaten. Kost rond de 40 eu

A very different wine, light body, intense nose, low acidity. From an almost extinct varietal, this is a small production (bottle 603/4197) with raspberry, strawberry and earthy notes.
We really loved this wine. Beautiful light body, dark ruby in color. Nose of tart cherry, fresh blueberries and a hint of saline. Medium plus acidity. Taste of fresh cherry, blueberry, cola, a hint of pink pepper. Lovely tart cranberry finish with a hint of grass.
The nose is smoke, cherry, white pepper, rosemary, cinnamon, meat crust a bit. The flavor is dark cherry, tannin, dry earth, slightest lime zest, apple skin, cranberry, some flint. Darker ruby color to yellow edges. Full body, but lighter side. Grip to it. Dry, fruit really accentuates the main non fruit flavors.

I really like Baga, in its native Bairrada but also from the rare other locations it’s grown! This one is unoaked and very pure. Earthy nose with some pure chocolate, black currant, blackberry and clove followed by a fruity palate with pronounced acidity, integrated tannins, juicy prune & black cherry, lots of black pepper, clove and some licorice.
A quick return to the Baga grape, here is another glorious cuvée from António Maçanita & the Fitapreta venture in Alentejo. As opposed to the Bairrada wine I deservedly enjoyed for the Baga celebrations, the ’Baga ao Sol (v22, 13.5% ABV, btl 4,466/4,666) is hearty, less structured, easy-going palatableness! Baga is de ster van Bairrada, maar staat ook aangeplant onder de naam baga alentejana in de Alentejo. Op schistbodems. Baga staat bekend om zijn structuur maar ook hoge zuurgraad. Rijpt 12 maandjes op RVS, geen hout. Heel frisse stijl dus. Opvallend fijne kruidigheid. Heerlijk!
Visite à l’Adega Fitapreta 100% 🍇 Baga, fermenté avec les peaux, puis « élevé » 3 mois en cuve inox. C’est original, car ce cépage reçoit généralement beaucoup de fût en Alentejo, et est souvent employé en assemblages. La robe est sang, quasi rosée. Le nez est très simple: full fruits! Top qualité perçue! La bouche confirme: un vin hyper fruité, croquant, facile à boire (si on écarte le prix 😅). Il remplit une case à laquelle on ne pense pas dans une région si solaire.

Man glaubt kaum, dass so ein weicher, feiner, heller Rotwein aus der Hitze des Alentejo stammt. In der Nase rote Beeren, Granatapfel, etwas Veilchen, dazu eine kühle, leicht steinig-graphitige Note. Perfekt straffe Struktur. Am Gaumen frisch, saftig, schlank, mit feinen Tanninen und richtig Zug, Trinkfluss. Wie großartig, dass sich António Maçanita auf die Suche macht, solche herrlichen Rebsorten zu rekultivieren und sie so hervorragend ausbaut.

Very light crimson colour. Rose hip, pomegranate, forest floor, and grapefruit nose. Well balanced and delicate palate following the nose. Like a mix between Nerello and PN. Refined and subtle tannins on the finish. Very nice.

Clear dark purple. Nose with ripe forest blackberries and spices. Balanced, persistent, intense and complex even if un oaked. A very good mono varietal.
Dark red fruit, some dark fruit, unoaked. Very dry but not super acidic. Too dry without food. Great with meat & chz whose sharpness cuts the wine’s dryness well.
2020. Best slightly chilled. Pinot-like. Bright fruit mixed with savoury tones and perfume, fruit pastille too. Harmonious palate, though a slight fattiness which separates it from Pinot or gamay. Crunchy fruit in the mouth, some tannin. Great stuff, very fun.
Yum serve with country fried steak
Fruktjuice delux. Känns som ett syrah naturvän. Väldigt blött, djup färg och toner av plommon. Smaken är dock bara ren fanta vindruva, ganska söt men med lite bitterhet. Behöver dock luftas ett tag innan den kommer rätt, kan annars upplevas som lite tråkig.
Toll! Im Vergleich zu den typischen Douros ein ganz weicher, seidiger und ausgewogener Wein. Vielleicht weil er aus dem Alentejo kommt;-) Aber auch dort gibt es üblicherweise die dicken Rotwein-Bretter zu bohren. Die Geschmacksrichtung ist ähnlich aber eben alles ein bisschen sanfter. Deutlich weniger Tannine und weniger Schärfe. Dicke Empfehlung für alle, denen die Gaumen austrocknen wegen der heftigen Tannine in Portugals Aushängeschildern. Achja...hatte ihn schon einen halben Tag in den Wind

Rose petal, red currants, blueberry, bay leaf, black olive, mint, rosemary, graphite. Herbs of all sorts countered by raspberry jam. Balanced acidity + medium bodied with full palate tannins that don’t suck. I’m a romantic for juicy reds that smack like a Mediterranean mezze platter. This one hits.

Super interessant. Touriga Nacional ist eine meiner Lieblingsrebsorten. Hier mal, pur, jung, ohne Holz. Gibt eine tolle Referenz für TN Weine. Durch die Frische auch ein toller Sommer Wein.

Such a fun wine. The Portuguese Nebbiolo. So similar. The nose is more or less as interesting and complex as a Nebbiolo but on the palate it’s a bit lacking and turns into a raspberry juice that would make you quite drunk without you noticing with it’s 14% alcohol.

Interesting wine from Portugal, interesting grape (Baga). This is a very natural wine, without being vins de nature, eith a straightforward fruity and ”grapy” bouquet. It is well structured, mediumbodied with a long finish. Good value for money!
4.0 - a very nice wine and a new acquaintance for me. Full bodied and purple in colour, it comes packed with dark cherry, blackberry, violet, plum l, black olive and fig. Nicely balanced and accompanied by touch of cinnamon and minerals.

Gott, en druva som var totalt okänd för mig, Baga. Blev positivt överraskad. Mycket smak, fruktigt men inga tunga tanniner men lite strävhet finns det.
Portugisisk Beaujolais har jag läst och kan väl hålla med. Härligt lätt utan att vara blaskig. Mycket och lång smak av röda bär. Bra struktur och snälla tanniner.

Nice discovery of the bags variety. Pleasant nose with hints of cooked plums and wood. Powerful mouth while still a bit astringent , ideal with meat.

A very smooth Baga from one more experience by António Maçanita. Less harsh than a typical old-school Baga, with the strength of an Alentejo wine. Great.
An excellent Dão red
Um baga alentejano sem madeira projeto do enólogo Maçanita. Como o próprio diz, o novo terroir de xisto com calor, contrastando com a frescura e acide leve da Baga. Diferente. Evolui no copo, seco, cereja, frescura, sempre fresco com belíssima acidez.
Schönes Rot im Glas. Etwas reife, rote Beeren in der Nase, eher subtil. Tannine im Mund, durchaus gut eingebaut. Ein relativ herber Wein, auch nach reichlich Luft. Dennoch zivilisiert und balanciert. Interessanterweise, am zweiten Tag (vakuumiert) schmeckt der klar besser. Also, gebt dem Zeit zum Atmen. 3,8.
Mycket läskande. Lite av fräschheten hos ett naturvin; mycket frukt och mjuka, men egendomligt distinkta tanniner. Svarta vinbär och rabarber, smaker som tillsammans med ettriga stick av ros`epepppar huvudsakligen detonerar i främre delen av gommen. Lite svårmatchad med mat, men man lätt svepa en flaska(företrädesvis sensommarkvällar) utan att tröttna på den här sträva fruksoppan. Det står "unoaked" på etiketten, betvivlar inte det ett dugg. Flera mil mellan det här vinet och närmaste ekbestånd.
Tomando em taça, via Enomatics, no restaurante Sommelier Lisbon. Cor rubi intenso, mancha a taça. Nariz mediano, fragrante, fresco e floral, tem aroma a frutas vermelhas maduras, morangos, ameixas, framboesa, fecha com notas florais exuberantes. Em boca é seco, tem ataque macio, acidez média+, taninos médios+, corpo médio, o conjunto tem bom equilíbrio, sabor confirmando o nariz e final persistente. Ótimo vinho.
Sehr harmonischer und tiefgründiger Baga (2020). Intensive Nase von Blaubeeren und Dörrpflaume. Im Mund sind die reifen dunklen Früchte gepaart mit würzigen Noten wie schwarzem Pfeffer, schwarzer Olive, Lakritz. Sanfte Tannine und angenehme Säure, mittlerer Körper. Längerer würziger Nachhall. Viel Wein fürs Geld (20€).
Klasse Baga, sehr rar 4.2⭐️. Die Reben wachsen auf kargen Schieferböden, was den Ertrag reduziert. Die streng sortierten Trauben werden spontan vergoren und dann für 12 Monate im Stahltank gelagert. In diesem Jahrgang wurden nur 4196 Flaschen erzeugt. Im Glas ein mittleres Rubinrot, die Nase nach Brombeere, schwarzer Kirsche, rote Johannisbeere und Gewürzen, jugendliche primäre Frucht. Am Gaumen mit toller Intensität, saubere, ungestörte Frucht und kraftvolle Tannine. Klasse!
(15,5) Aromas de frutos vermelhos, madeira e levemente especiado. Na boca apresenta uma óptima frescura num corpo agradável com acidez viva, taninos e final médios. Harmonizou com frango recheado com alheira.
Que elegância. Fruta que parece acabada de apanhar e cacau. Não se sente sequer o álcool, relojoaria Suíça. Falta alguma acidez e torna-se monótono se a garrafa for só para nós mas é uma grande experiência de vinho!

Single varietal Tinta Carvalha (daughter of Sarigo and Donzelinho Branco) from foothills of Serra d’Ossa mountain in the Alentejo region. 2,449 bottle production. Pale ruby with med intensity and satisfying m+ tannin and acidity. Med palate intensity of red fruit (cherry strawberry led). Like a Portuguese Pinot Noir.

[Fitapreta Winegeek Tour: 6/10] Another grape usually used in blends and not considered defining enough on its own. It’s also more typical in the North of Portugal. Antonio Maçanita makes it shine on its own, in the Alentejo! Uma casta de enorme elegância, completamente fora da "caixa". A casta proporciona ao vinho uma cor bastante translúcida, mas que chama a atenção. No nariz é muito exuberante a fazer-se sentir frutos vermelhos, na boca é suave, com imenso equilibrio e tem um final de boca persistente qb. Bebido como prova, mas creio que fará harmonizações fantásticas com pratos de bacalhau! Distinto, a revisitar! 4,2⭐
Kirschrot, und genauso riecht der Wein auch. Die Nase ist der pure Himbeersaft, dazu Kirsche nebst Granatapfel, traumhaft rotfruchtig-verspielt. Viel schwarzer Pfeffer, etwas Eukalyptus und zerriebener Stein geben auch eine deutlich würzige und ätherische Note hinzu. Satte Cranberry. Auch im Mund ist die Tinta Carvalha der pure, ungeschminkte Saft aus Himbeere und Kirsche in Salz gewendet.

Límpido de cor clara com tons leves de madeira. No nariz tem fruta vermelha. Na boca tem uma entrada doce e levemente ácida. De corpo redondo. Nota-se a fruta e vinosidade e é muito leve. Quase sumo. Dark purple colour. Medium bodied with high tannins. Aromas of blackberries, blackcurrant, cherries, chocolate. Medium finish.
Light red in colour and also in the mouth. Cherry with some spices. Good earthiness, not too much tannin, but also not enough acidity.
It shows a open ruby color. Intense and fresh nose, with red fruits, pomegranate and graphite notes. In the mouth is elegant and tense attack, with plush tannins. Medium finish.

Perplexing as there are noticeable oak characteristics, such as tobacco, despite being unoaked 🤔 blueberry, plum, iron, a little green bitterness on the palate. Long finish. Good quality wine.
Fitapreta! This touriga wine was tasted in a very nice winebar Tannin in Antwerp, Belgium 🇧🇪! It drinks very well, I was a little disappointed that my glass was empty so fast! Did it mean that it was only a small glass or that is was so nice drinking this glass? Well I guess both apply here! On the nose blackberry, plum and blueberry but also some mineral notes. The palate has the same great ripe black fruits, nice intensity, medium body and good finish. Rate 3,8⭐️

Doesn’t quite hit for me. The quality isn’t bad, it’s just a very austere, ungenerous wine, restrained to a fault. Very arid, dusty expression with a hint of cherry and red fruit, but little else. Somewhat interesting as an exercise, but ultimately underwhelming.
Tasty Touriga Nacional, on the light side of the varietal. Still rather dark coloured and full-bodied. Blackberry and blueberry notes, and a bit of oak. But the wine is a bit lighter than this description would suggest. (Humus x Hortense)

Fylligt med lite syra och tanniner. Svalt så fanns det en söt jordgubbseftersmak som jag inte gillade och som inte funkade till kött, potatis och bea. Tempererat funkade det att dricka i sig själv.
